Recognition of Outstanding G.E. Teachers
To recognize outstanding general education teachers, the Center for G.E. established a system to reward outstanding teachers in general education in the 2011 academic year. Since then, the reward system has undergone two reforms. Starting from the 2014 academic, outstanding teachers are selected annually per criteria set forth in the NCHU Guidelines for Recognition of Outstanding Teachers in General Education* and presented awards by the NCHU president at major NCHU events (e.g., weekly student meetings) or other ceremonies. The Center for G.E. will nominate selected full-time teachers eligible for the Ministry of Education's Distinguished Award for General Education Teachers to the General Education Execution Committee for a formal nomination.
Outstanding teachers in general education should meet the three following criteria:
I. Offered at least 3 general education courses (cumulative) in the past three academic years and have at least 6 credits in cumulative weighted teaching credits.
II. Average in the top one-third of the entire school in terms of student satisfaction for general education courses over the past three academic years.
III. Student grades average lower than the average grades of all general education courses in NCHU over the past three academic years. Course offerings, student satisfaction, and student grade averages from years teachers were awarded will not be counted towards future awards.
In addition to the teaching credit criteria, awarded teachings must also ensure content quality and fair grading in general education courses.
