Ministry of Education authorizes examinations
The Admission Division is mainly responsible for the admission and recruitment work of the University's undergraduate, master's, doctoral (degree program) work.
Channels of recruitment are as follow: (base on the recruitment guidelines of the academic year)
A. Undergraduate program recruitment channel:
a. Star Plan referral
Eligibility: New graduates who have completed first and second year in the same senior high school in the country, whose “average grade for each semester” in first and second year passes the University standard and have participated in the following tests may apply to College Admissions Committee for Star Plan after attaining the recommendation of the school.
1. College Entrance Examination Center: General Scholastic Ability Test (GSAT) of the academic year.
2. College Entrance Examination Center: Test of English Listening Comprehension (TELC) in the last three academic years (required by some departments)
3. Joint Committee of College Admission Practical Examination: Practical Examination of the academic year (required by some schools, not applicable to the University)
Recruitment Schedule: Application date for GSAT is approximately around end of October to beginning of November, test date around end of January or beginning of February. TELC is held in every October and December. Application for school referral begins in beginning of March, and the result shall be announced in mid-March.
Exam method: Senior high schools will refer qualified new graduates to the University according to field of study, and the College Admissions Committee will announce the result and placement publicly.
b. Personal Application
Eligibility: Applicants shall have high school diploma or equivalent qualification, and apply to College Admissions Committee after participate in the following tests:
1. College Entrance Examination Center: General Scholastic Ability Test (GSAT) of the academic year.
2. College Entrance Examination Center: Test of English Listening Comprehension (TELC) in the last three academic years (required by some departments)
3. Joint Committee of College Admission Practical Examination : Practical Examination of the academic year (required by some schools, not applicable to the University)
Recruitment Schedule: College Entrance Examination Center: General Scholastic Ability Test (GSAT) (around end of January or beginning of February), Test of English Listening Comprehension (held every October and December), then apply to the College Admissions Committee (around mid-March) with a test score that passes the admission standard. The second phase audition for designated subjects (around mid-April) will be held subsequently. Once being admitted, applicants may register their order of preference for field of study to the College Admissions Committee.
Exam method: The GSAT is a written exam, the second phase audition is based on written review and interview, while some departments may conduct additional written tests.
c. Admission by Exam
Eligibility: Applicants shall have high school diploma or equivalent qualification.
Recruitment Schedule: Students shall take Advanced Subjects Test (AST) at the College Entrance Examination Center during July1-3. Applicants may freely decide on the test subject, and after the exam, fill out their order of preference online. If the applicant's scores pass the admission standard for AST set by different schools, and the minimum admission standard of the department, the applicant may gain admission according to the order of priority and bonus points.
Exam method: The applicant shall be placed to different schools according to AST scores and order of preference.
d. Special Admission
Eligibility: Applicants shall have high school diploma or equivalent qualification, General Scholastic Ability Test (GSAT) score is not taken into consideration in this category of admission. Applicants are evaluated according to the following:
(1) the applicant has shown outstanding ability in academic or non-academic field, extraordinary performance or potentials in specific fields. (2) Students with financial disadvantages, different education background or special experience, not evaluated based on competition awards but the student's learning background as well as other information to evaluate the student's overall potential, motives, and future development.
Recruitment Schedule: Guideline is announced in beginning of October; application begins end of October to November; Review and interviews begin at end of November to Mid-December; and results are announced at end of December.
Exam method: Application is based mainly on paper review and interview.
e. Outstanding athletes admission
Eligibility: Applicants applying as outstanding athletes shall have high school diploma or equivalent qualification, and participate in the General Scholastic Ability Test (GSAT) of the academic year, held by the College Entrance Examination Center, with a score that passes the standard set by applied department, and qualifies for one of the University's criterion for outstanding athletes (limited to achievements attained in high school).
Recruitment Schedule: Guideline is announced in December; application begins end of February to beginning of March; practical exam in Mid-March; results are announced at end of March.
Exam method: Practical Exam
f. Four-Year Technological School and Two-Year Vocational School Guarantee Admission, Special Achievement-based Admission, and Screening-based Admission
1. Four-Year Technological School and Two-Year Vocational School Guarantee Admission
Eligibility: Applicants shall have high school degree or equivalent qualification, and quailed under the category “Applicants applicable for guarantee admission due to Special skills and achievements” as set by the Guidelines as well as one of the following conditions:
(1) Having participated in WorldSkills Competition (including International Abilympics) and won awards or participated in International Science Affair with outstand performance, the applicant had gained referral and document for proof.
(2) Being selected as national champion for WorldSkills Competition (including International Abilympics), supporting document shall be provided.
(3) Having participated in National Skills Competition (including National Skills Competition for the Physically and Mentally Challenged), and won top three ranking.
(4) Having participated in National High Schools Skills Competition and won top three ranking as individual.
Recruitment Schedule: Qualified applicants shall apply via the Joint Commission of Technological and Vocational College Admission Committee website in early January.
Exam method: Applications will be divided according to categories and their awards in accordance with “Guarantee Admission for Special skills and Achievement Ranking Comparison Chart”. The Joint Commission of Technological and Vocational College Admission Committee will announce the results on the website in mid or late January.
2. Four-Year Technological School and Two-Year Vocational School Special Achievement-based Admission
Eligibility: Applicants shall have high school diploma or equivalent qualification, and fit the following criterion for edibility of special achievement and screening-based admission:
(1) Having participated in WorldSkills Competition (including International Abilympics) with top rankings or award, or having participated in International Science Affairs with outstanding performance and certificate.
(2) Being selected for WorldSkills Competition (including International Abilympics) as national champion (including alternative), with supporting document.
(3) Having participated in National Skills Competition (including National Skills Competition for the Physically and Mentally Challenged) and won top rankings in various categories.
(4) Having participated in National High School Skills Competition and won top rankings as individual. Moreover, the rank is within the range set by screening-based admission.
(5) Having participated in National Primary & High School Science Fair, Taiwan International Science Fair with outstanding performance and acquired referral from National Taiwan Science Education Center.
(6) Having participated in other national level skills competitions held by other institutions in the central government level or municipality and won top ranking.
(7) Has Class B or higher technician certificate issued by the government.
(8) Having participated in other international level special skills competition and won top ranking.
Recruitment Schedule: Qualified applicants shall visit the Joint Commission of Technological and Vocational College Admission Committee website in early May for application guidelines.
Exam method:
(1) After passing initial screening, submit fees and application in late May and participate in the appointed subject screening held by the University.
(2) Successful applicants (including admitted and those on waiting list) shall go to the Joint Commission of Technological and Vocational College Admission Committee to register order of priority, and only after the result placement is announced is the admission official.
3.Four-Year Technological School and Two-Year Vocational School Screening-based Admission
Eligibility: Applicants shall have high school degree or equivalent qualification, and have applied for “Four-year Technological school and Two-year Vocational School Join Entrance Exam” held by Testing Center for Technological and Vocational Education and attained a score; Applicants with a 0 two or more subjects (inclusive) on the joint exam or those who don't have a score, are not qualified for application.
Recruitment Schedule:
(1) Application for Joint Entrance exam starts in mid-December: Initial Test date is next May, applicants who did not register or take the Joint Entrance exam may not apply.
(2) First stage application: applicants shall follow the set timeline application and method to complete first stage application. Applicants may apply up to three departments at most. First stage application is in late May.
(3) Second stage application: after passing first stage, applicants shall go to Joint Commission of Technological and Vocational College Admission Committee website for “Second Stage Registration (submitting portfolio), pay second stage designated fees and upload documents in early June.
Exam method:
(1) In late June, universities will announce the result of the screening (list of applicants who are admitted and those on waiting list)
(2) Applicants on the admission list (including waiting list) shall go to Joint Commission of Technological and Vocational College Admission Committee website to register their order of preference, and the result shall be announced by the committee. Each applicant shall be admitted by one department at most. Registration for priority order is in early July.
(3) After the distribution of order of preference, in early July the final admission result shall be announced on the Joint Commission of Technological and Vocational College Admission Committee.
g. Admission for Overseas-Chinese and Hong Kong, and Macau Students
Eligibility: Must be qualified for Overseas-Chinese, Hong Kong and Macau student status and have high school diploma or equivalent qualification issued by the Ministry of Education.
Recruitment Schedule: Application timeline follows University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Students.
Exam method: individual submission to University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Students (paper review).
h. Students with Physical or Mental Disability screening-based Admission
Eligibility: Applicants shall have high school diploma or equivalent qualification certified by the Ministry of Education, in addition to physical or mental disability certificate.
Recruitment Schedule: Guideline is announced in November; application begins December; exam at end of March; results are announced at Mid-March.

i. Undergraduate Extension Program
Eligibility: Applicants shall have high school diploma or equivalent qualification.
Recruitment Schedule: Guideline is announced in May; application begins Mid-June to beginning of July; exam in Mid-July; results are announced at end of July.
Exam method: Mainly based on written exam, some programs may conduct screening-based admission.
j. Post-graduate Diverse Skills Training program
Eligibility: For applicants who have attained a degree higher than undergraduate degree (inclusive)
Recruitment Schedule: Guideline is announced in May; application begins Mid-June to beginning of July; paper review in July; results are announced at end of July.
Exam method: paper review
k. Transfer Admission (Winter vacation)
Eligibility: Applicants shall have equivalent qualification certified by the Ministry of Education and qualify under the rules on the guidelines to apply for transfer exam for undergraduate program.
Recruitment Schedule: Guideline is announced at end of October; application begins Mid-November to Mid-December; paper review in Mid-December; results are announced at Mid-January and class starts in February.
Exam method: paper review
l. Transfer Admission (Summer vacation)
Eligibility: Applicants shall have equivalent qualification certified by the Ministry of Education and qualify under the rules on the guidelines to apply for transfer exam for undergraduate program.
Recruitment Schedule: Guideline is announced in April; application begins beginning of May; exam in beginning of July; results are announced at end of July.
Exam method: Written exam. Held by the University and National Cheng Kung University, National Sun Yat-sen University, National Chung Cheng University together.
m. Veterans screening-based Admission
Eligibility: Applicants shall hold documents supporting honorary discharged status (veterans shall provideVeterans ID card, second type discharged shall provide supporting document or benefit card).
Recruitment Schedule: Guideline is announced in April; application begins May to June; paper review at Mid-June; results are announced at beginning of July.
Exam method: Screening-based admission. Placement is made according to order of preference, application shall be submitted to Veterans Affairs Council.
B. Master's program Admission
a. Master's program screening-based admission
Eligibility: Applicants shall have undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification certified by the Ministry of Education.
Recruitment Schedule: Guideline is announced in Mid-September; application begins beginning of October. Screening for respective departments starts around mid-October to end of November. Results are announced in two stages, end of November and December.
Exam method: Paper Review and Interview, some faculties will require written exam.
b. Master's program exam-based admission
Eligibility: Applicants shall have undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification certified by the Ministry of Education.
Recruitment Schedule: Guideline is announced in October; application begins beginning of December, exam at February. Results are announced in two stages, end of February and beginning of March.
Exam method: mainly written exam, some faculties will conduct screening and interview.
c. In-service master's program
Eligibility: Applicants shall have undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification certified by the Ministry of Education and the years of work experience and special conditions regulated by the faculty.
Recruitment Schedule: Guideline is announced in October; application begins beginning of December, exam at February. Results are announced in two stages, end of February and beginning of March.
Exam method: Paper Review and Interview, some faculties will require written exam.
d. Overseas In-service Master's program
Eligibility: Applicants shall have undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification certified by the Ministry of Education and the years of work experience and special circumstances regulated by the faculty.
Recruitment Schedule: Guideline is announced in March; application begins April to June, exam at July. Results are announced in end of July.
Exam method: Paper Review and Interview.
e. Industry Master's Program
Eligibility: Applicants shall have undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification certified by the Ministry of Education and are in industries and professions relevant to the program.
Recruitment Schedule:
(a) Spring class guidelines will be announced in October, application begins November to December, written exam January of the following year, result will be announced in mid-January and class starts in February.
(b) Autumn Class guidelines will be announced in Mid-March, application begins April to May, written exam at Mid-June, result will be announced at end of June and class starts in September.
Exam method: Written exam, paper review and interview.
f. Overseas Chinese and Hong Kong and Macau Students.
Eligibility: Must be qualified for Overseas-Chinese, Hong Kong and Macau student status and applicants shall have undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification issued by the Ministry of Education qualification.
Recruitment Schedule: Application timeline follows University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Students.
Exam method: Individual submission to University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Students (paper review).
C. PhD Program
a. PhD Program screening-based admission
Eligibility: Applicants shall have master's degree or equivalent qualification certified by the Ministry of Education.
Recruitment Schedule: Guideline is announced in Mid-September; application begins beginning of October. Screening for respective departments starts around mid-October to end of November. Results are announced in two stages, end of November and December.
Exam method: Paper review and interview, some faculties may require additional written exam.
b. PhD program exam-based admission
Eligibility: Applicants shall have master's degree or equivalent qualification certified by the Ministry of Education.
Recruitment Schedule: Guideline is announced at end of January; application begins beginning of April. Written exam at Mid-May, paper review and interview around April to May. Results are announced at end of May.
Exam method: Paper review and interview, some faculties may require additional written exam.
c. Overseas Chinese and Hong Kong and Macau Students
Eligibility: Must be qualified for Overseas-Chinese, Hong Kong and Macau student status and applicants shall have master's degree or equivalent qualification issued by the Ministry of Education.

1. The University's Graduate Institute of Biotechnology has collaborated with Academia Sinica to establish Molecular and Biological Agricultural Sciences (MBAS)” Taiwan International Graduate Program, recruiting PhD candidates from the nation and the world.
